Overview and history

The Gambia Swimming & Aquatic Sports Association (GSASA) is the governing body for swimming and aquatic sports in The Gambia, a country located in West Africa. GSASA governs Swimming, Open Water Swimming, Diving, High Diving, Water Polo, Artistic Swimming, Masters, and Aquatic Lifesaving & Lifesaving Sports in The Gambia. However, its primary focus is currently on Swimming and Open Water Swimming. The association aims to develop and nurture Gambian talents, provide coaching and training programs, and represent The Gambia in regional and international aquatic championships.

 

The Gambia Swimming Association is affiliated with World Aquatics, Africa Aquatics, the National Sports Council (NSC), the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC), and the International Life Saving Federation (ILS).

 

Two sports enthusiasts, Mr. Yorro Njie, and Mr. Cherno Krubally, led the way in forming the association. The association was founded on 19 February 2011, under the leadership of Yahya Al Matarr Jobe (the first President of the association).
