Athlete Ousman Jobe sets two national records at the PTT Thailand Swimming Championships

Athlete Ousman Jobe, who currently trains at the Thanyapura Training Center in Thailand, recently participated in the PTT Thailand Swimming Championships (25m pool) organised by Swim Meets Thailand and held from 21 to 24 December 2023. He participated in 6 events: 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly, 50m breaststroke and 100m individual medley (IM). 

Six GSASA officials completed a three-day World Aquatics Swimming Development L1 Webinar for Technical Officials

Six Gambia Swimming & Aquatic Sports Association officials completed a level one three-day World Aquatics Swimming Development Webinar for Technical Officials. The webinar was held from the 18th – 20th September 2023. The purpose of the course was to achieve the following objectives: enlarge the number of swimming officials and enhance the quality of the existing ones.

Day 6 - World Aquatics Swimming Championships 2023

On Day 6, which is the final day in the Championships for The Gambia, Ousman Jobe competed in his last event, the men's 50m freestyle. Participating in his first-ever World Swimming Championships, Ousman achieved a timing of 28.47 in the men's 50m freestyle.

Day 5 - World Aquatics Swimming Championships 2023

First-ever appearance at a World Championship, first-ever female Gambian swimmer to compete in a women's 200m breaststroke, setting a new personal best and of course a national record in the women's 200m breaststroke. Who else would it be if not the one and only Aminata Nia-Maria Barrow (fondly called Amie Barrow).

Day 2 - World Aquatics Swimming Championships 2023

Aminata Nia-Maria Barrow (aka Amie Barrow) today, 24 July 2023, competed in the women's 100m breaststroke. Being the first Gambian female swimmer to ever compete in the women's 100m breaststroke, Amie achieved an outstanding timing of 1:14.32.

Yorro Njie, secretary general of The Gambia Swimming and Aquatic Sports Association and the GNOC, is currently participating in the 2023 World Aquatics Championships, the 20th edition from 14 to 30 July 2023 in Fukuoka, Japan, as one of only three African referees or International Technical Officers (ITO) selected to officiate at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka.

World Aquatics Championships 2023, 14 – 30 July 2023

Three Gambian swimmers will represent The Gambia at this year's World Aquatics Championships 2023 in Fukuoka, Japan. This is the first time since the inception of the association that more than one athlete will represent the nation at the World Aquatics Championships (formerly FINA World Championships). This will also be the first time since the inception of the association that a female athlete will participate in the Championships.
